When we arrived in 2006, our pack was small and nimble, and sleep was plentiful. Now there is a dog (b. 2006) and two boys, Leo (b. 2008) and Sam (b. 2010). This is our attempt to keep track of it all, from the mundane to the triumphant, with lots of photos to compensate for when words fail us.

Our First Family Trip to Washington, DC
Last weekend, we made our first family voyage to our nation's capitol. The main reason was to celebrate Sarah's big birthday which Stan arranged as a surprise party. Since we arrived on Friday night, we had to entertain ourselves for most of Saturday so she wouldn't find out. We decided that a trip to the Air and Space Museum and then lunch in Georgetown was a perfect plan. We could have easily spent all day at the Museum but Dan had a craving for Wisemiller's. He quickly remembered that they didn't have seating so we opted for The Tombs next door.
Leo and the much-beloved flight simulator
Flying a real plane
His first 3-D movie - the glasses stayed on the entire time
Milkshake at The Tombs (before a major tantrum)
Brotherly love or brotherly wrestling in a restaurant booth - you decide
Things went downhill quite quickly - it was a wild rumpus party in the booth
Many of you already know, but we're moving in the next month or so. We decided that we all need a bit more space than our 860sqft apartment provides for two growing boys. Our new home is in Nyack, NY, just over the Tappan Zee Bridge and only 45 minutes (without traffic) to Brooklyn.
Here are some photos of the boys hanging out in the very empty house while Dan and I work on logistics of getting us into such a big place while not owning much furniture at all.
This photo is a little freaky. It looks like Leo is a ghost but Dan was trying to capture him playing inside the cabinets.
I feel like we've been staying inside more this winter even though it's been quite mild. There are less trips to the playground - mostly because Sam refuses to wear mittens and then cries because he's cold.
Sam digs his snacks and his snack cup.
Sam is in full train mode. He's into connecting them and making long trains all by himself.
Leo was so exhausted he fell asleep on the clean clothes pile. Yes, they need to be folded. I usually only get to that after the kids go to sleep.
Violet's birthday party. Pizza all around. Theo and Leo eating in the windowsill.
Fun with Aunt Jenne - the boys thought it was hilarious to be dragged around the kitchen island by their feet.
Sam proud of his trains
I took the boys to the Queens Library Children's Discovery Center - they both loved the computer area which is built into the ground.
Sam spontaneously grabbed the monkey ear and guitar (his favorite toy)
Sweet, sweet Sam. He made his 20-month mark by officially teasing his brother. While Leo sat on the couch, Sam run up to him, pretended to hand him a toy and then ran away when Leo went to grab it. He kept doing it until Leo shouted, "Mom, Sam's teasing me!"
We've been waiting for bated breath for Sam to say "Leo". For the last couple of weeks he's been calling him "Lala". We all know what he means but no one else does. It melts my heart when Sam gets in the car and Leo's not there. He says, "Lala" over and over again.
Sam is really into reading and books lately. His favorites include:
And a Leo-ism: We headed up to Nyack the other day and Leo said, "Nyack is a kind of boat." I had to think for a second and then realized, "Yes, it sounds like kayak which is a boat. But Nyack is a town."
